David H. Chae, ScD, MA, Robert Wood Johnson Health and Society Scholar (Cohort 5) was a recipient of the 2008 American Legacy Foundation to Increase Diversity in Nicotine and Tobacco Research. He received this award given his interest in addressing patterns and disparities in racial/ethnic minority health, including substance use, particularly among Asian Americans. His work has documented patterns in current smoking and smoking cessation, as well as etiologic research in smoking epidemiology among Asian Americans using data from the National Latino and Asian American Study (NLAAS).
Dr. Chae's research has focused specifically on the influence of racial/ethnic discrimination on health outcomes among racial/ethnic minorities. He plans to continue being involved in work that addresses mental, behavioral, and physical health disparities experienced by racial/ethnic minority communities.
