Matthew Killingsworth

Matt Killingsworth, PhD

Matthew Killingsworth studies the nature and causes of human happiness, and is the creator of, a project that uses smartphones to study happiness in real-time during everyday life. Recent research topics have included the relationship between happiness and the content of everyday experiences, the percentage of everyday experiences that are intrinsically valuable, and the degree of congruence between the causes of momentary happiness and of one’s overall satisfaction with life. Matt earned his Ph.D. in psychology at Harvard University. Prior to graduate school, he worked in the software industry as a product manager. Matt received his B.S.E. from Duke University with majors in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Economics.
